just a breath of gratitude
just another reach for the light
just a search into the soul
before my plane takes flight

taking care of all the details
packing up the stuff
can I even put one more thing
into that bag of mine

when you live on an island
2500 hundred miles away
it takes a little while to get anywhere
and some adjustment
to different times and ways

so I always look at travel
as an adventure
a chance to open new doors
to let go of my fixed ways
and learn a little more

there’s so much that is out there
and I have to make the time
to connect with friends in person
and not just here online

so one more journey
one more place to open up my mind
and let my soul guide me
to other shades of light

it is beating out your name
can you listen in the silence
and hear rhythms deep refrain


do you feel God’s love residing
there within your soul
all the ancient secrets feed
your need to answer what is known


can you hear your soul calling
in the whispers of the wind
draping you with a promise
turning you to look within


can you hear life calling
in the rising of the sun
do you feel the light bless you
and give you a strength to carry on


there’s a calling of the heart and soul
there’s a calling of the day
there’s a calling of the world
asking you to love and be engaged


embrace all the calls heard
and listen to their songs and words
answer them with a smile that’s worth
an opening to be filled
with hope and goodwill for the world

that burst above the mountain top
at dawn to shine forth on all of life

we are the interpreters of mystic signs
we find the secret clues given
and express it in any way we can find


we are living in the shadows
of ego battles that deceive
the truth of what’s the our true purpose
that we came here to reveal


and when the path is long
and we are weary of the climb
we reach out to our Teacher
and ask for help from our fellow humans


and when we see the good that comes
from doing what we know is right
we hold our arms up to the sky
and thank God for this moment
and the gift of being alive
